From Vicious Pit Bull to Slippery Stool Pigeon: Michael Cohen's Political Rise and Demise
You think you know him. You see him in the papers daily. But he's even slimier and slipperier than you thought.
In the game of high stakes politics, there is a man named Michael Cohen. And that name, unfortunately, will live on in infamy. Known as the former personal lawyer and a close confidant to Donald Trump, Cohen has had more twists and turns in his life than a runaway roller coaster at Six Flags. Don’t be fooled by his grandiose claims and passionate pleas – Michael Cohen is about as reliable as a weather forecast in Iceland.
Cohen started with politics back in the 80s, when he interned for Rep. Joe Moakley, and volunteered for Michael Dukakis’s presidential campaign. In the 90s, he worked as a personal injury lawyer in Manhattan for Melvyn Estrin.
In the early 2000s, Cohen tried to run for New York City Council to represent Manhattan as a Republican. You can imagine how well that went, even back then. At the time, Cohen was business partners with Simon Garber, the “taxi king”, and owned many taxi medallions himself.
By 2006, he made partner at the law firm Phillips Nizer LLP. That same year, Cohen joined the Trump organization.
Over the next decade, Cohen made a name for himself, gaining a reputation as Trump’s “fixer” and “pit bull.” From 2017 onwards, things changed dramatically for him.
He registered as a Republican, became a national deputy finance chairman for the RNC, got targeted by the phony-baloney Steele dossier scheme, and paid over $130,000 in hush money to Stormy Daniels.
Cohen was raided by the FBI, felony convicted, sentenced to prison, and disbarred from practicing law in New York.
In late 2018, Cohen re-registered with the Democratic Party to distance himself from the Trump administration. In 2019, Cohen sued the Trump organization, claiming that Trump owed him unpaid legal fees. By 2023’s end, Trump had counter-sued and both parties later settled.
In 2023, it was reported that Cohen contemplated running for office again, this time against Jerry Nadler. Cohen is the kind of guy that dreams big, despite his laughable odds. It’s almost admirable.
Cohen is back in the spotlight as a key witness in the hush money criminal trial against Donald Trump. You might think that with all his prior flip-flopping, Cohen would be a less than ideal witness, and you'd be right! Even the federal judge reviewing his details suggested that Cohen probably committed perjury under oath, certainly not the first time he’s been caught lying, of course. Talk about a glowing endorsement for your credibility.
Michael Cohen is a man who has built a career on contradictions and questionable decisions. His role as deep state stool pigeon in the Trump hush money trial is just the latest chapter in his sordid life. The next time you hear him talking about "the truth" or "justice," just remember – this is the same man who has made a habit of changing his tune more often than a starving DJ at a blue-haired feminist bridezilla’s wedding party.
Happy Shaming dear friends. We would start with a gander over to his X profile here.
